Why is curd not stored in copper containers?
The curd contains lactic acid in it. When the curd is stored in the containers made up of brass and copper, the lactic acid present in the curd reacts with metals and forms metallic salts. These metallic salts are harmful. They make the curd unfit for human consumption. Therefore, in order to prevent the acid present in the food to react with metals, the metals are coated with a thin layer of tin. Tin is also a metal. However, it doesn't react with acids as rapidly as other metals do. Thus keeping the food in tin coated container is safe.
