Why does a flame always point upward?

Swirling effect:

Because of the air around the flame gets heated, it becomes lighter and rise up. Now, the cold air rushing into the flame and it also gets heated and rises again. This continuous cycle of hot air rising  up and cold air rushing in is known as swirling effect. This makes the flame points upward.
